:: about me

» I graduated from Loughborough Uni in 1996 with a BA (Hons) in Textile Design, where I had selected to specialise in printed textiles. It does feel like a long time ago now, but my design rationale usually always resulted in a graphical style – so my rapid progression into the challenging world of graphic design and visual communication was seemingly inevitable. I had various roles and opportunities whilst living in London for the next 7 years, but a move back north was calling, and from mid 2002 until the end of 2008 I was the Online Design Manager for the Internet Bank, Egg, based in Derby. As a senior member of Egg's in-house design and advertising agency, my responsibilities included concept and idea generation for below-the-line advertising campaigns, as well as creative direction, brand sign-off and ongoing performance management for the design team.

As a freelance designer, I'm now enjoying the the flexibility and opportunities available to work with and for a wide variety of brands and organisations. I'm also a qualified lecturer for Higher Ed, teaching into the BA (Hons) Visual Communication programmes at two East Midlands Universities. I'm passionate about design and although I enjoy creating aesthetically pleasing results, I always strive to make them focused, usable and accessible, and teaching provides me the chance to share my enthusiasm for this with other aspiring designers.

» I'm highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Fireworks & Dreamweaver, and my technical knowledge covers CSS & HTML. I've listed my main software skills, but there are many others that I've touched upon over the years, so just ask if there's something specific. I've also dabbled in some coding, with small amounts of ActionScript & JavaScript, so I'll give anything a go but I'm more of a 'drawing and colouring in' type of girl at heart.

» Other stuff I enjoy: Running (although sometimes 10 miles is quite far enough), Polar Bears (obviously wouldn't/couldn't have one as a house-pet, but they are just so majestic and beautiful), and, not unlike most women, I really, really like shoes and have a large collection (unlike most, complete with its own cupboard) in various colours and styles – some of my favourites are design genius!
